SPIE Energy Poland S.A., in a consortium with ELFEKO S.A., has signed a contract with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne for the expansion and modernisation of the Gdańsk Błonia 400/110 kV substation. The contract is worth over 402 million zł, and the project is scheduled for completion in November 2030.
The project is one of the key investments for the National Power System. The modernisation of the substation will enable the timely connection of a new combined cycle gas turbine unit at the Gdańsk substation and will create the conditions for the further electrification of the district heating system in the Trójmiasto. Once the work is complete, the Gdańsk Błonia substation will become one of the most important elements of the transmission infrastructure in northern Poland, enhancing the security of energy supply.
The scope of the investment includes the comprehensive modernisation and expansion of the facility, which has been in operation since the mid-1970s. The 400 kV and 110 kV switchyards will be rebuilt, and two new 450 MVA autotransformers will replace the existing 250 MVA units. New buildings for on-site use, a guardhouse and a storage and garage building will also be constructed; the signal box will be modernised, and disused infrastructure will be dismantled. Key equipment, including autotransformers and reactors, will be supplied by PSE as part of the investor’s scope of supply.
As SPIE Energy Poland, we are embarking on a project that has a direct impact on the country’s energy transition and on strengthening Poland’s energy security. We are particularly pleased that, as a company with deep roots in the region, we can contribute tangible local content – both through the use of local resources and the involvement of our staff, who will carry out this strategic task for the national electricity system
– emphasises Leszek Goli, Chairman of the Management Board of SPIE Energy Poland S.A.
The signing of the contract confirms SPIE’s expertise in delivering strategic energy projects and strengthens the company’s position as a partner supporting the energy transition and the development of modern electricity infrastructure in Poland.
